Cure Kids - Red Nose Day

The 23rd August saw various shades of red arrive at KBS, as it was Red Nose Day a national fundraising event for Cure Kids. A key focus at KBS is to look at ways that we can support others in our community. Therefore last Friday we ran a Mufti Day encouraging all staff and children to come dressed in red for a gold coin donation.
Below are photos of how Studio 17 got involved!

Te Tuna Poetry Recitals

On Friday 16th August Te Tuna Syndicate met in the school hall to listen to the finalists of our poetry recitals. Each studio were able to enter three representatives and it was a very tough choice for Miss Tainui to choose who was to go through from Studio 17. In the end and after much deliberation Sophie Kiddey represented the Year 5's and Robin Hodson-Seel and Sydney Sangster represented Year 6.

A big thank you also to Mrs Lott and Mrs Kite who were our judges on the day, not an easy job!

Year Five representative - Sophie Kiddey who came second overall.

Year Six representative - Robin Hodson-Seel.

Year Six representative - Sydney Sangster who came third overall.

Wearable Arts

During Term Two Miss Kersten came up with the idea that our whole school should get involved with creating a piece of wearable art as we were going to enter four pieces into the Christchurch Primary Schools Cultural Festival in Term Three. So our class got together, brainstormed ideas based around the theme "Out of the Wardrobe" and then individually or some of us chose to work in a team, our creations came to fruition.
A big thank you to many of our parents who helped us to sew, stick, glue, solder and hunt out a variety of materials so that our creations could be made.

Check out what we came up with!

Jacob as a zombie.

Robotic Jesse.

Ben, our very own walking, talking spiderman.

Ice Maiden - Grace with her team Trinity and Makayla.

Luci called her piece "Square Bear."

Ashleigh the cowgirl.

Willow and Sophie as a dolphin.

Wired robot, Sam can be seen peeking through.

Samantha and Olivia as the walking purse.

Sydney and her flightless bird creation.

Milk Arrives at KBS

Kaiapoi Borough School has taken on the "Milk in Schools" progamme run by Fonterra. Our studio is responsible for delivering the milk to each Year 1-6 class every day and making sure that the fridges are kept stoked up with milk, so that is nice and cold for drinking!

Katlyn tries out her milk!

The girl's sip their way through their milk carton after lunch.

As they finish off their milk, the boy's have to fold them up in a special way ready for recycling.

Sophie has her milk too!

Our Buddy Class - Studio One

This year our Buddy Class is Studio One which is a class of Year Two students taught by Mrs Henderson. We try to spend time with them every Friday afternoon either in their studio or down in Studio 17. Some of the activities that we have done are shared reading, art, we've played Rippa Rugby and we've helped our buddies create Mother's Day cards.
Below are some photos of when we had a shared lunch together.
