Thanks to funding from Canterbury Tennis, all our Year 3-6 children at KBS have been given the opportunity to have three 45 minute sessions for free with Rangiora coach Ian Allso. Studio 17 had their first session on Friday where they learnt how to volley the ball over the net and to co-operatively work with their partner.

Odd Shoe Day

Friday 13th September was Odd Shoe Day at KBS, a nationwide fundraiser for children who attend Camp Quality. Children from Studio 17 also got behind this cause by wearing red and black and of course odd shoes. As a class we raised $37 to go towards our school's total. Check out the shoes worn in our studio!

Student Led Learning - RISE

Our overall school focus for 2013 is RISE - Recognise, Inspire, Share and Engage. As part of our work in Term Three we have been sharing with each other and gaining a greater understanding of those who help us in our school and wider community.
We have also looked at the talents and expertise within our own studio. To develop our children's ability to lead their own learning, they have either independently or in teams planned a lesson to share with their peers. They have also needed to think about what teaching will take place, resources that they will need and any follow up materials.
Keep an eye out on our blog to see what Studio 17 can "share" with each other.
Trinity and Makayla teaching the class how to make a fruit smoothie.
Students were given a worksheet by the girl's and they were
asked to write down the ingredients needed and each step that
had to be taken to make their drink.
The final product! Makayla and Trinity then took in their worksheets
marked them and gave feedback to each student.
Great job girls!

Volleyball Training

Studio 17 have just had their first session of volleyball where they are learning the skills needed to play
with the help of Fraser and Krystal from North Canterbury Sport. In our first session we learnt the basics of getting the ball over the net and rotating around, so that we got to be in different positions. We also found that it was important to work together as a team.
Who is going to get to the ball first?
Marli checking that his team are ready to play.
Getting organised ready to play.
Kaitlyn has the ball.
